Clydesdale Group RDA started in 1984 in conjunction with Stanmore House School in Lanark, part of Capability Scotland. It has been in continuous operation since then, albeit at a number of different venues. From September 2008, we will undertake our activities at Stanmore Stables on the outskirts of Lanark. Our riders mostly come from the Lanark area of the Clyde Valley, but a few are from further afield We have specialized in helping children and young adults with learning difficulties. We take riders from Stanmore House, Victoria Park School in Carluke and Craighead School in Hamilton. We also take individual riders who have been recommended for riding therapy.
The Group typically has about 25 riders each week. We have 5 instructors and about 45 volunteer helpers.
We encourage suitable riders to take part in competitive events and we have had riders win at the RDA National Championships in 2000, 2002 and 2003 and at the Scottish Championships in 2004. We take part each year in the regional Musical Ride Competition, winning the ridden section in 2006 and 2008.
